    Reaction to bills and draft regulations

    In a letter to the Minister Responsible for Seniors and Informal Caregivers and to the Minister of Health and Social Services, the Ombudsperson commented on the draft Regulation to amend the Regulation respecting the contribution of users of health and social services institutions, the Regulation respecting the contribution of users taken in charge by family-type resources or intermediate resources, and the Regulation respecting the application of the Act respecting health services and social services for Cree Native persons.

    Investigation result

    At a hospital, a woman signed a form to have a semi-private room. She was charged hospital fees. A family member felt that the woman had been incapable when she signed the document. Wanting to have the invoice cancelled, he complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen was supposed to get a Direction générale de l’indemnisation des victimes d’actes criminels (DGIVAC) form by mail. She needed it quickly in order to make an important decision. Seeing that the form was not arriving, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    On August 26, 2020, the Ombudsperson presented a brief to the Committee on Institutions concerning Bill 45, Act concerning mainly the appointment and the terms of office of coroners and of the Chief Coroner.

    Investigation result

    A man was discharged from hospital. To go home, he was placed in a wheelchair in an adapted vehicle. Feeling that the wheelchair was not suitable for his condition, he complained to the Québec Ombudsman.
