A citizen lodged a complaint against a paramedic who disclosed information about her without her consent.
The paramedic noted the information during the citizen's transport to the hospital. He then shared it with someone close to the citizen, since he knew him well.
But the citizen absolutely did not want this information to be disclosed to that person.
Following the intervention of the Protecteur du citoyen, the paramedic was reminded of his confidentiality obligations.
Québec’s provincial code of conduct for ambulance and paramedical staff is available online (in French).
The Protecteur du citoyen ensures that your rights are upheld in your dealings with Québec public services. Are you dissatisfied with the services of a Government of Québec department or agency? Or with those of a health and social services network institution (2nd level of recourse)? File a complaint by calling 1-800-463-5070 or using our online complaint form.
