A citizen lodged a complaint against Revenu Québec, which was not allowing her to make a change to her relative’s tax file, for whom she is the mandatary.

As her brother is a mandatary in the same capacity as her, Revenu Québec absolutely wanted him to authorise the change as well. However, the citizen had her brother's full confidence and he would let her make decisions without his input. As a matter of fact, the parent's protection mandate specified that both mandataries could carry out actions in the file on their own.

The intervention of the Protecteur du citoyen enabled Revenu Québec to discover an error. Despite the precision of the protection mandate, it was recorded in the parent's file that any change had to be authorised by both of his representatives. The organisation quickly corrected the error and made the change requested by the citizen.
