Investigation results

For each complaint it receives, the Québec Ombudsman determines whether the complaint is admissible, and if it is, whether it will investigate. When the investigation is over, and the finding is that error or injustice occurred, we send our recommendations to the competent authorities so that the problem or situation brought to light can be corrected. Here are some real-life cases that show how our investigations were carried out and the resulting recommendations.

  1. February 24 2020

    A man had a disability caused by a work-related accident. His physician advised him to buy a hand bike. The CNESST refused to reimburse him for it. The man complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A hospitalized woman used her call bell, but no one came. As a result, she had to get up on her own, and she fell. The woman felt that the fall could have been prevented if someone had come to her sooner. She complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A woman asked the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) to reimburse her for her orthoses. The agency refused, so she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A mother used cannabis regularly and did not want to stop. A nurse therefore advised her to stop breastfeeding. However, the mother’s physician had not told her the same thing. The mother complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A mother learned that Retraite Québec had suspended her child assistance payments. She complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    In a hospital, an end-of-life patient shared a room with an agitated man. A family member complained to the Québec Ombudsman to speak out against the situation.

    A man whose residence was flooded received an amount of money from the Ministère de la Sécurité publique. Considering this amount insufficient, he complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

  8. January 6 2020

    A child with a severe disability was not getting all the home support hours to which he had the right. His exhausted parents complained to the Québec Ombudsman to criticize the lack of services.

  9. December 16 2019

    A citizen noticed that Revenu Québec had seized her Canada child benefit. Aware that the agency was not allowed to seize these amounts, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

  10. December 9 2019

    At a hospital emergency room, a woman learned that a relative had been sent to another section. Disagreeing with the decision, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.
