Investigation results

For each complaint it receives, the Québec Ombudsman determines whether the complaint is admissible, and if it is, whether it will investigate. When the investigation is over, and the finding is that error or injustice occurred, we send our recommendations to the competent authorities so that the problem or situation brought to light can be corrected. Here are some real-life cases that show how our investigations were carried out and the resulting recommendations.

  1. April 29 2019

    The hearing aid of a woman living at an intermediate resource (IR) broke because it was mishandled. The IR felt that it was not responsible for the accident and refused to compensate her. A family member complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen could not correct certain information entered in his Registraire des entreprises (REQ) file. When he contacted REQ to solve the problem, he discovered that his enterprise’s registration had been cancelled. He complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen felt penalized because the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) gave him an appointment too late. He complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A child with severe deafness had to see a speech therapist every week. The frequency of the meetings was not respected, so the father complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen received financial assistance for studying abroad. He felt that the amount was insufficient. He complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen in distress contacted an addiction rehabilitation centre (CRD). The needs assessment meeting was scheduled for several weeks later. Dissatisfied, he complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen entered her name in an Internet search engine. She discovered that her father had recognized their filiation years after her birth. A family member of the citizen complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A woman with cancer had to wait for hours at the emergency room. Even though she felt tired, she was denied a stretcher. A family member complained to the Québec Ombudsman.
