A citizen filed a complaint against the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) when it forgot to adjust his compensation.

The man had had a severe disability since a road accident.

In 2022, a new victim category was added to the Automobile Insurance Act: victims with catastrophic injuries or sequelae. SAAQ immediately changed the files of the victims concerned, but it forgot a few, including the citizen’s. As a result, the man’s indemnity was not adjusted as it should have been.

The Protecteur du citoyen intervened so that SAAQ identified the forgotten files and corrected them. The indemnities of all those concerned were increased.

To know which injuries or sequelae are considered "catastrophic," see the Regulation on the subject.

The Protecteur du citoyen ensures that your rights are upheld in your dealings with Québec public services. Are you dissatisfied with the services of a Government of Québec department or agency? Or with those of a health and social services network institution (2nd level of recourse)? File a complaint by calling 1-800-463-5070 or using our online complaint form.
