Investigation results

For each complaint it receives, the Québec Ombudsman determines whether the complaint is admissible, and if it is, whether it will investigate. When the investigation is over, and the finding is that error or injustice occurred, we send our recommendations to the competent authorities so that the problem or situation brought to light can be corrected. Here are some real-life cases that show how our investigations were carried out and the resulting recommendations.

  1. August 19 2019

    A citizen received compensation from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (the SAAQ) following an accident. Feeling that she qualified for a bigger amount, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

  2. August 12 2019

    A woman at a hospital wanted medication that she generally took at home. The staff could only give her an equivalent product. She therefore took her own medication and filed a complaint with the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen asked the SAAQ to license his stored vehicle and he paid to have it registered at the same time. Afterwards, he realized he had made a mistake. He asked the SAAQ to reimburse him, but it refused. He filed a complaint with the Québec Ombudsman.

    A man who had a urinary catheter had repeated infections. Doubtful as to the upkeep of the catheter, a family member complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen went to a medical appointment by cab. The Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale approved his application for reimbursement. After some time, he had not yet received the money, so he complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen was given injections against her will at a health institution. She complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

  7. June 10 2019

    Revenu Québec sent a citizen a document indicating a debt that went back more than ten years. Seeing that he owed a hefty amount in interest, the man complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen had been receiving benefits under the Québec Parental Insurance Plan for several months. When she was instructed to reimburse it all, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen was the legal representative of one of her relatives. She saw that the health institution providing him with services was not keeping her well informed. She complained to the Québec Ombudsman.

    A citizen asked the Direction principale des biens non réclamés to have a car moved. When the processing of her file dragged on, she complained to the Québec Ombudsman.
