Tribunal administratif du logement: not just internet communications

An elderly person lodged a complaint against the Tribunal administratif du logement (TAL) for preventing her from sending important documents.

She couldn't send them electronically because she had no internet provider. She could have gone to the TAL office, but it seems she would have had to make an appointment first... online. She tried to do this by phone, but the lines were always busy. Each time she tried, a recorded message asked her to call back later.

Thanks to the Protecteur du citoyen, the woman was able to make an appointment and hand in her documents in person.

The Protecteur du citoyen is also continuing its efforts to ensure that TAL answers calls within a reasonable timeframe.

In certain situations, you can go to the TAL offices without an appointment. This is true in the case of applications (e.g. for repossession of a dwelling) for which the deadline is approaching. To learn  more about exceptional situations, visit the TAL website.

To learn more about this real-life case, see our 2022-2023 Annual Report (in French).

The Protecteur du citoyen ensures that your rights are upheld in your dealings with Québec public services. Are you dissatisfied with the services of a Government of Québec department or agency? Or with those of a health and social services network institution (2nd level of recourse)? File a complaint by calling 1-800-463-5070 or using our online complaint form.
