A man complained about a hospital which had not informed him before his father was transferred to a residence.

The nurse had only announced the news to the father and his legal representative.

This complied with the rules. However, other staff had committed to advising the son under such circumstances. He was very involved in decision-making about his father.

The nurse was unaware of the agreement, even though it was in the file.

At the Protecteur du citoyen’s request, the hospital reminded its staff to carefully read a patient’s file before announcing a transfer. That way, the staff can carry out the appropriate follow-up if special requests were made.
