The Protecteur du citoyen received a report about the care offered to the residents of Pavillon Philippe-Lapointe, a residential and long-term care centre (CHSLD) located in the Laurentians. The Protecteur du citoyen decided to intervene.
Findings
Even though there were good practices at Pavillon Philippe-Lapointe, the Protecteur du citoyen saw sizable problems. First, the staff did not give residents all required baths. Second, oral care was neglected. Moreover:
- Instruction in the approach to use with people with dementia, while highly useful, seemed to have been dropped;
- Even though most residents were French-speaking, certain staff were not fluent in French;
- Organization of PPE should have been improved;
- The CHSLD was short-staffed, in addition to having trouble keeping its experienced workers.
Given the preceding, the Protecteur du citoyen made three recommendations to Pavillon Philippe-Lapointe. The CHSLD accepted all of them. The Protecteur du citoyen will see that they are implemented.
