The Protecteur du citoyen’s involvement with mediators of the French-speaking world
Since its creation, the Protecteur du citoyen has contributed to developing the ombudsman concept in Canada and abroad. With the Médiateur de la République française, it founded the Association des ombudsmans et médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) in 1998.
The Protecteur du citoyen has been the President of the AOMF since November 25, 2021.
The AMOF is a professional organization of the independent mediation institutions of La Francophonie countries. Its primary objective is to develop ombudsman and mediator institutions.
The Association also promotes knowledge of the role of the ombudsman and the mediator to La Francophonie's member parliaments and governments. It does so with the support of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
Featured on the AOMF website is the Recueil de la doctrine de l’Ombudsman, a compendium designed to support the mission of ombudsmen and mediating institutions. In addition, it contributes to their training and improve the quality of their work.
