What happened

A father filed a complaint against the Department of Youth Protection (DYP) for changing the rules surrounding contact with his child too often.

What we did

Our investigation revealed that the DYP had changed the location and frequency of the meetings several times. In addition, contact sometimes had to be supervised, and sometimes not.

We found that no plan had been established for supervised visits. But when shared and explained, this type of plan provides the parent with important information. For instance, it allows them to know what to expect and what they need to do for the rules to be relaxed.

Outcome of our investigation

The DYP worked with the father to prepare a plan for supervised visits.

Why this is important

When making contact arrangements, stability and consistency are key to fostering strong bonds between parent and child.
