A mother filed a complaint against a hospital that had not properly assessed her daughter’s state of health.

The child spent a night at the emergency room a few days after throat surgery. She continued to be in pain and had trouble swallowing. The staff assessed her and gave her medication. In the morning, she seemed to be doing a bit better. She was allowed to go home.

Afterwards there were major complications.

After the Protecteur du citoyen intervened, the hospital improved its practices by means of reminders and training, among other things. Now, the state of health of children brought to the emergency room after surgery is better assessed and monitored.
