On May 11, 2022, Québec Ombudsman Marc-André Dowd sent a letter to the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, commenting on the draft Regulation respecting the conditions and procedures governing the review of a result. The purpose of the draft regulation is to define the mechanism for reviewing the results obtained by general education, vocational and continuing education students. It also clarifies the role of principals and teaching staff within the review process.

Mr. Dowd welcomes this draft regulation. However, he points out that the people who want a result reviewed must be informed about the risk they are taking because the result could be lower than the initial grade. This means that a student who was not failing might fail further to a review. What’s more, the new grade is final. It cannot be changed and the old grade cannot be restored.

The Québec Ombudsman made one recommendation—that the review form contain this important piece of information.
