Draft regulation to replace the Regulation respecting immigration consultants
The Québec Ombudsman supports the draft regulation to replace the Regulation respecting immigration consultants.
It applauds the tightening of the rules governing the activities of immigration consultants, notably, their application to people acting as consultants when their recognition has been suspended or revoked or has expired. The Québec Ombudsman considers that the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Diversité et de l'Inclusion should be vigilant regarding application of these new measures in order to curb remaining abuse in certain cases of immigration consultancy.
Furthermore, the Québec Ombudsman is pleased to note that the fees for entry in the Registre québécois des consultants en immigration have been reviewed and adjusted to take into account the real cost of application processing, as it recommended in its 2012-2013 Annual Report.
