Bill 8 – Act to amend the Civil Protection Act concerning financial assistance
As part of the special consultations and public hearings on Bill 8, Act to amend the Civil Protection Act concerning financial assistance, Ombudsperson Marie Rinfret conveyed her comments to the Committee on Institutions.
She feels that the proposed amendments to the Civil Protection Act should simplify and facilitate access to compensation in the event of disasters. Furthermore, the introduction of a general compensation program should streamline the compensation process. However, since the procedure is not yet defined, the Québec Ombudsman will remain watchful as to the program’s implementation to ensure that it meets disaster victims’ needs.
Ms. Rinfret took the opportunity to a point out that the Québec Ombudsman may take complaints from disaster victims who are dissatisfied with the handling of their application for financial assistance or compensation.
