Bill 51, Act mainly to improve the flexibility of the parental insurance plan in order to promote family-work balance

Corps

In a letter to the Chair of the Committee on Labour and the Economy, Claire IsaBelle, Ombudsperson Marie Rinfret commented on Bill 51, Act mainly to improve the flexibility of the parental insurance plan in order to promote family-work balance.

The Ombudsperson feels that this bill enhances the Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP). If the bill is passed in its current form, parents will enjoy greater flexibility when the time comes to take parental leave. Moreover, the QPIP will be better adapted to their reality. Ms. Rinfret also fully subscribes to the intention to foster equality between adoptive parents and biological parents.

Given the preceding, for now, the Ombudsperson has no recommendations concerning this bill. She will study the consideration of this bill with great interest.
