Intervention at Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux des Laurentides’ protection and rehabilitation centres for youth with social maladjustments
The Québec Ombudsman received a report describing flaws in medication management at Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) des Laurentides’ protection and rehabilitation centres for youth with social maladjustments.
During the investigation it conducted, the Québec Ombudsman saw that improvements had been made in medication management further to an inspection by the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec. It noted greater compliance regarding medication and a more effective and safe procedure for distributing, administering and storing medication.
However, the investigation showed that the health educators who work with the youth housed in these centres do not always comply with the medication distribution procedure.
The Québec Ombudsman therefore made three recommendations to CISSS des Laurentides, in particular so that the health educators have a better understanding of their role and responsibilities.
The CISSS agreed to implement the Québec Ombudsman’s recommendations.
