Intervention at Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Gaspésie - Villa Maria
The Québec Ombudsman received reports concerning multiple failings in the quality of the services and the living environment at Villa Maria, an intermediate resource, which is under agreement with Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Gaspésie (CISSS).
During the investigation it conducted, the Québec Ombudsman noted major deficiencies that had persisted for several years at the intermediate resource. These shortcomings had been addressed in recommendations and attempts at improvements by the CISSS.
The investigation showed that when the CISSS intensified its monitoring and supervision in the resource, the situation improved. However, as soon as the CISSS was less present, the situation deteriorated again.
That is why the Québec Ombudsman recommended that the CISSS maintain tight supervision and a daily presence at the resource for as long as people are referred there for lodging. The CISSS agreed to implement the recommendation.
