Report concerning an intervention at Hôpital Pierre-Le Gardeur
The Québec Ombudsman received reports about flaws in the quality of care, triage process and staff behaviour at the emergency room of Hôpital Pierre-Le Gardeur, in the Lanaudière region. The causes of dissatisfaction also included long wait times before patients received medical attention and lengthy stays in overflow units.
The investigation by the Québec Ombudsman revealed that the physical layout of the Hôpital Pierre-Le Gardeur emergency room could not entirely ensure users’ safety and that its triage modules were not conducive to respect for patients’ dignity and right to privacy.
The Québec Ombudsman made 16 recommendations to Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de Lanaudière, to which it responded to favourably. The Québec Ombudsman will keep a close eye on their implementation.
