Bill 133 – Act to make wearing of the uniform by police officers and special constables mandatory in the performance of their duties

Corps

The Québec Ombudsman subscribes to the various objectives of the bill, notably in order to foster public confidence regarding police officers and special constables and to ensure achievement of the highest standards in matters of public security in Québec.

However, it drew attention to a related problem on which the Québec Ombudsman has already commented and which remains unresolved—Québec police officers’ obligation to carry prescribed identification in their relations with the public.

In a letter to the Committee on Institutions, it made a recommendation aimed at specifying the type of identification that must be carried by Québec police officers in their relations with the public.
